en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 2, Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT) announced a collaboration with artificial intelligence and robotics company FieldAI to deploy physical AI, autonomous systems, and robotics technology at industrial sites and manufacturing facilities.

The collaboration combines Caterpillar's industry expertise, engineering capabilities, and operational data with FieldAI's AI robotics foundation models to enable autonomous operations in complex job sites and manufacturing environments. The technology leverages NVIDIA accelerated computing and NVIDIA Omniverse to build high-fidelity digital twins based on operational data.

Early applications include four areas: autonomous inspections to enhance safety and operational visibility; real-time digital twins of facilities and job sites, providing real-time insights into equipment, infrastructure, and operations; enhanced situational awareness to help identify potential risks earlier; and operational optimization through simulation, automation, and AI-driven insights.

"The future of our industry will depend on how effectively we combine human expertise with AI-driven machines," said Jaime Mineart, Chief Technology Officer at Caterpillar. John Tuntland, Senior Vice President of the Integrated Components division, noted that these technologies provide teams with more comprehensive visibility into facility operations, helping identify improvement opportunities. FieldAI founder and CEO Ali Agha stated that FieldAI has deployment experience across hundreds of sites globally.

FieldAI has raised over $400 million from investors including Bezos Expeditions, Khosla Ventures, Temasek, and NVIDIA's venture arm NVentures. Caterpillar's 2025 sales and revenue totaled $67.6 billion. The financial terms of the collaboration were not disclosed, nor was a timeline for broader technology deployment. Earlier this year at CES, Caterpillar had already showcased its "Future of the Job Site" vision.
