en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Private Investment Promotion Agency of Peru (ProInversión) recently launched 14 irrigation projects with a total estimated investment of $20.492 billion. These projects include 7 ongoing projects and 7 potential projects, aimed at ushering Peru's agriculture into a new development phase by expanding agricultural frontiers, enhancing water security, and boosting agro-industrial exports.

This portfolio covers 7 ongoing projects and 7 additional potential projects, benefiting 11 regions nationwide. The projects are expected to expand and improve approximately 1.3 million hectares of farmland, create about 2 million jobs, and generate an additional $25 billion (FOB) in agro-industrial exports.

Luis Del Carpio, Executive Chairman of ProInversión, stated that Peru's next major economic transformation will revolve around irrigation infrastructure. He noted that decades ago, the country relied on large-scale projects to transform the mining industry, and now there is an opportunity to position Peru as one of the world's leading food supply bases. Water infrastructure is one of the areas that can amplify the economic impact of investments, simultaneously boosting productivity, formal employment, and exports. Every dollar invested in irrigation generates a multiplier effect on the economy, not only bringing new land into production but also driving logistics chains, agro-industry, services, technology, and quality employment across regions.

Among the priority projects, 7 ongoing projects—including Chavimochic III, Olmos – Nueva Concesión, Olmos – Operador Transitorio, Majes Siguas II, Chinecas, Sistema Poechos, and Pampas de Villacurí y Lanchas—have a combined investment of $7.574 billion. These initiatives will benefit 7 regions, expand and improve over 419,000 hectares of land, create 776,000 jobs, and increase agricultural exports by approximately $7 billion.

Additionally, 7 potential projects with a total investment of $12.918 billion, including Trasvase Marañón, Yuraqpacha, and Chancay-Lambayeque, will significantly increase the available farmland area.

Currently, the regions of La Libertad, Ica, and Piura concentrate approximately 50% of Peru's agricultural exports, with products such as blueberries, grapes, and coffee ranking among the country's top exports. Peru has over 36 million hectares of agricultural land and more than 2.1 million producers, indicating ample room to expand agricultural production through new infrastructure development.
