en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Port of Trelleborg in Sweden is advancing an expansion project for its ro-ro terminal, which will equip a 250-meter section of the port's 500-meter quay with five side fenders and one bulbous bow fender to support cargo-oriented vessel operations.

This project represents the final implementation phase of the 2010 environmental ruling for the Port of Trelleborg, which required all conventional vessel traffic to be gradually relocated from the old port area to the modern basin. The expansion is scheduled for completion early next year, at which point the number of ro-ro berths will increase from the current level to eight.
Since the 2010 environmental ruling, ro-ro freight volumes at the Port of Trelleborg have exceeded initial expectations, placing additional pressure on the handling capacity of one of Scandinavia's most important freight gateways. The port plays an increasingly vital role in unaccompanied trailer and freight traffic along the southern Baltic Sea and North Sea corridor, with high-frequency sailings supporting major European supply chains. This expansion reflects the continued growth in freight volumes handled through the port's ro-ro system, which, via regular ferry services connecting Germany, Poland, and Lithuania, handles a high proportion of trailer and semi-trailer transport in Sweden's international road freight.
