en.Wedoany.com Reported - Surrey, British Columbia, Canada has announced plans to advance the construction of a 10,000-seat arena, with the project expected to be completed by 2030. Once built, it will become the new home of the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League (WHL).

The project is being jointly advanced by the City of Surrey and Surrey City Development Corp., with both parties agreeing in principle to develop the arena on a two-hectare site near City Hall. The arena is estimated to cost CAD 360 million, with funding already included in Surrey's 2026 budget. The project will also include a luxury hotel, conference space, and residential units, and the arena will be capable of hosting concerts and cultural events.

The Giants currently play at the 5,200-seat Langley Events Centre, where they have been based since relocating from Vancouver's Pacific Coliseum after the 2016-2017 season.

Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke stated that the city will acquire the land needed for the arena through a land swap involving three other city-owned properties. Locke said the project is expected to generate approximately CAD 2.4 billion in economic benefits over its first 10 years of operation.

Ron Toigo, majority owner of the Vancouver Giants, said in a statement that the WHL club is "thrilled" about its future home, adding that the venue "will transform Surrey in ways we have never seen before."
