This eight-axle LTM 1450-8.1 can travel with a full 85-metre main boom, outriggers, and winch under a 12-tonne axle load limit. In the UK, where axle loads of up to 16 tonnes are permitted, the crane can also travel with a 7-metre luffing jib and up to 24 tonnes of counterweight. The crane is equipped with VarioBallast adjustable counterweight and VarioBase variable outrigger setting systems.
In its first assignment in Bayerrod, Saxony, the crane lifted battery storage units weighing 47 tonnes each for a solar park covering approximately 100 hectares. Subsequently, at a project in Lemgo, it hoisted a 32-tonne cover onto a large heat storage tank at a hook height of 74 metres.
Company owner Matthias Richter stated that the LTM 1450-8.1 covers a wide range of applications, from industrial projects to complex operations in the energy and infrastructure sectors. He believes that with this 450-tonne crane, the company has gained the flexibility needed to reliably handle the current high volume of orders, even when multiple projects are running simultaneously.
Matthias Richter started as a sole trader in 2007 with just one truck-mounted crane. That same year, he founded Richter Kran und Schwerlast in Grimma, central Germany, focusing on transporting construction materials. In 2016, he purchased his first mobile crane—a Liebherr LTF 1060-4.1 truck-mounted crane, which is still used for turbine foundation work. The company later added two more cranes: a Liebherr LTM 1070-4.2 and an LTM 1090-4.2. By 2019, the company had 20 employees and moved to a new location in Leipzig.
Richter Kran und Schwerlast now employs 75 people, offering transport and crane rental services, and operates a fleet of 22 Liebherr cranes, including MK series self-erecting cranes and telescopic crawler cranes, with lifting capacities ranging from 60 tonnes to 750 tonnes.
