en.Wedoany.com Reported - True North Copper (ASX:TNC) has appointed senior exploration geologist Matt Porter as Exploration Manager as the company expands drilling operations at the Aquila copper discovery.
Porter brings over 20 years of experience in the Mt Isa Inlier region, having held senior exploration management roles at Sandfire Resources (ASX:SFR) and Mount Isa Mines.
Recent geophysical surveys have extended the interpreted strike of the Aquila discovery from approximately 1.0km to 1.8km.
Drilling commenced at the Mt Oxide project in late April to confirm the geophysical extension of Aquila, with assay results expected in late July.
Initial drilling at Aquila revealed broad zones of shallow copper mineralisation, including 145m at 0.75% copper from surface (including 53m at 1.18% copper) and 59m at 1.77% copper (including 7m at 7.90% copper).
The discovery builds on the existing Vero resource, which stands at 15.03 million tonnes at 1.46% copper and 10.59 g/t silver, containing 220,000 tonnes of copper in indicated and inferred resources.
Porter said he was excited to join True North Copper at an important stage of the company's development, noting that Aquila is one of the most exciting new greenfield copper discoveries in the Mt Isa region in over 20 years, and the opportunity to participate in defining and developing this significant copper system is highly attractive.
Managing Director Andrew Mooney said Porter's extensive experience in the Mt Isa Inlier and his leadership capabilities at Sandfire Resources significantly enhance the company's exploration capacity. As drilling progresses to expand the Aquila discovery, with more results expected from July, Porter joins the team at an exciting time as the company continues to build a major new copper system capable of supporting a staged, significant development at the Mt Oxide project.
True North Copper is exploring the broader Mt Oxide region in northwest Queensland, including prospective areas such as Aquila North, Apollo, and Acanthis, while building a larger mineralised system around the Vero resource and the Aquila discovery.
