The association is dedicated to developing, promoting, and advancing advanced non-terrestrial network (NTN) services for global consumer, commercial, civil, and government applications, with a focus on direct-to-device (D2D) and Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystems.

Founded in February 2024, MSSA aims to drive the convergence and evolution of terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks based on 3GPP mobile standards. Founding members include Viasat, Terrestar Solutions, Ligado Networks, Omnispace, and Space42, with membership subsequently expanded to include leading terrestrial industry players. Association members utilize L-band and S-band spectrum allocated for mobile satellite services to jointly support scalable, sustainable, and affordable connectivity for land, sea, and air devices.

Gatehouse Satcom is an active member of 3GPP and ETSI, directly involved in the development of 5G NTN standards, and has delivered NB-IoT NTN and New Radio (NR) protocol software validated across GEO, MEO, and LEO deployments. Through this membership, the company will contribute standards-based software expertise to MSSA's technical specifications and best practices for D2D and IoT ecosystems.
