en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Spanish government has allocated nearly 13 million euros to support Astilleros Gondán shipyard in building a new-generation multi-purpose offshore wind service vessel, designated C-513.

The C-513 measures 120 meters in length and 23 meters in width, with a capacity of 173 people. Its primary tasks include deploying offshore wind structures and supporting the construction, operation, and maintenance of offshore wind farms, a market rapidly expanding due to the energy transition.
The vessel is also capable of underwater operations, submarine cable laying and repair, offshore construction, and remotely operated vehicle (ROV) missions, enhancing its versatility in energy and marine infrastructure projects.
Its design incorporates technologies to reduce environmental impact, including a hybrid propulsion system equipped with batteries and heat recovery devices, thereby improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions during operations.
This subsidy will be disbursed between 2026 and 2040 to offset interest on loans provided by Spain's Banco Sabadell for the vessel's construction. Regulated by Royal Decree 874/2017, the subsidy aims to lower financing costs and enhance the international competitiveness of the Spanish shipbuilding industry relative to other EU and OECD countries.
The Spanish government stated that this project demonstrates the strength of the country's shipbuilding industry, which is increasingly focused on vessels with high technical value and complexity, with a clear export orientation. Meanwhile, Astilleros Gondán shipyard has shown strong capabilities in developing vessels that meet the specific needs of international shipowners and the requirements of the offshore wind industry.
