Wedoany.com Report-May 5, Construction has begun on a new multisports facility in the Ryde area of New South Wales (NSW), Australia, with the project slated for completion by 2026. The facility is being developed on the site of the former Marsden High School, which was relocated to the Meadowbank Education Precinct in 2022.

The indoor component of the facility will span 5,000m² and comprise four multipurpose courts.

The new venue will feature various spaces for community and sporting events, with a particular focus on netball, a sport with high participation rates in NSW. The indoor section will cover 5,000m² and include four multipurpose courts that can accommodate basketball, futsal, badminton, and more. The outdoor area will have 29 netball courts, open lawns, picnic areas, and new parking facilities for cars and bicycles.

The new courts will replace the aging netball facilities at Meadowbank Park, which are currently in poor condition. NSW Premier Chris Minns expressed excitement about the project, saying: “This huge new facility that we’re delivering will create much-needed sports and recreational space for this rapidly growing community. With over 30 new outdoor and indoor courts to open space, picnic areas and parking, this will be a great community space that people can come and enjoy whether they play sport or not. For years, this block was left to sit vacant. Now we’re turning it into a world-class sporting facility that everyone will be able to use.”

Karen Waud, president of the Eastwood Ryde Netball Association, also voiced her enthusiasm, stating: “Eastwood Ryde Netball Association are very excited about the commencing of the construction phase of our netball journey at our new facility. With four indoor courts, 29 outdoor courts, and café facilities, it will offer a fantastic experience for players and fans alike. This will be wonderful for our sports-loving community in the City of Ryde.”

This development is part of a broader effort to improve recreational facilities in the region. Earlier this month, the NSW Government also launched a A$309 million ($197 million) redevelopment project for Penrith Stadium, which is expected to open in 2027.
