en.Wedoany.com Reported - ADNOC Drilling, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), announced that the first fully automated walking island rig integrated with artificial intelligence, AD-300, has been successfully delivered and accepted, approximately three months ahead of the original schedule. The early delivery of this rig has accelerated the progress of the next-generation project for six rigs.
The AD-300 stands 50 meters tall and weighs approximately 2,000 tons. It integrates automation, digital systems, and hybrid power capabilities, with the option to connect to the grid. The rig's automatic walking function allows it to move between well sites without disassembly. Automated systems such as automatic pipe handling and AI-based monitoring help reduce personnel exposure risks in complex operating environments.
Abdulla Ateya Al Messabi, CEO of ADNOC Drilling, stated that the delivery of the AD-300 marks a step change in the company's approach to large-scale, technology-driven energy development. By integrating automation, artificial intelligence, and robotics on a large scale, operations are enhancing safety, improving efficiency, and achieving more consistent and predictable performance. As the first of six rigs in this project, the AD-300 demonstrates the ability to deliver complex, high-value assets ahead of schedule, helping to accelerate revenue generation and support ADNOC's capacity expansion.
The AD-300 is deployed on one of ADNOC's unique artificial islands and is one of the first six next-generation island rigs under a $1.54 billion contract awarded by ADNOC Offshore (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company Offshore Operations) in 2024-2025.
Tayba Abdulrahim Al Hashmi, CEO of ADNOC Offshore, said that the AD-300 and the next-generation island rigs are accelerating ADNOC's growth, expanding its capacity, and delivering long-term value to stakeholders and the nation.
The rig's integrated data system provides real-time operational insights for performance optimization and predictive maintenance. Currently, the AD-301 is being deployed, with the remaining rigs scheduled for delivery by 2027.
