en.Wedoany.com Reported - Spain's Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Function, Óscar López, recently visited the facilities of Spanish satellite company Fossa Systems in Madrid. The company specializes in the manufacturing and sale of small satellites, providing satellite IoT connectivity services for regions lacking or with unstable infrastructure.

Fossa Systems has just put its 26th satellite into operation and completed a €9.25 million funding round, with the Spanish Technology Transformation Company (SETT), under the ministry, participating with a €1.5 million investment. The company has also been a beneficiary of the "Kit Digital" and "Kit Consulting" projects, government aid programs aimed at driving business digitalization.

During the visit, López stated that this is a case worth emulating, especially as Europe faces major issues of strategic autonomy and digital sovereignty. The government will support not only this company but also the entire Spanish innovation ecosystem. He toured the company's facilities and met with the team, signing the slogan "Spain has no ceiling" on a model of a new satellite that Fossa plans to launch this autumn.

López noted that new progress in Spain's digital transformation is seen every day, expressing hope that Spain can be proud of being a country that both produces and exports technology. He congratulated founder Julián Fernández and the company for being a model of successful Spanish startups, stating that the government will accompany this and other companies in their growth, continuing to create wealth, employment, and added value.

Founded in Madrid in 2020, Fossa Systems designs, manufactures, and operates a constellation of direct IoT-connected satellites, providing comprehensive solutions for remote management of industrial assets beyond mobile network coverage. These operations are crucial in sectors such as energy, logistics, critical infrastructure, and defense. Its network enables connected devices to communicate directly via low-orbit satellites without the need for ground infrastructure or proprietary hardware. The company currently employs 50 people in Spain and Portugal and has launched 26 satellites since its inception, with the most recent one launched on July 7, having established a connection with the ground and becoming fully operational.

In December 2025, the company was selected by NATO to participate in the DIANA defense innovation acceleration program alongside other international startups.

In June of this year, SETT officially invested €1.5 million in Fossa Systems as part of the Spanish government's strategy to strengthen sovereignty in key technology areas, which include low-orbit satellite solutions vital to the telecommunications, industry, security, and aerospace sectors.
