en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) is offering BRL 72 billion in financing for the agricultural sector during the 2026/2027 Harvest Plan (Plano Safra), an increase of BRL 2 billion compared to the previous cycle. These funds can be contracted between July 16, 2026, and June 30, 2027, to finance investments in corporate agriculture and family farming, as well as operations through the institution's permanent credit lines.

Of the total amount announced, BRL 40.5 billion corresponds to equalizable resources from the Federal Government's Agricultural Plan (PAGF). Of this, BRL 21.5 billion is allocated to corporate agriculture, with annual interest rates ranging from 8% to 12.5%, and BRL 18.9 billion to family farming, with rates between 0.5% and 7.5%. According to the bank, financing rates for most programs will be lower compared to the previous cycle.

Corporate agriculture is covered by nine investment programs, including Moderfrota, Pronamp, RenovAgro, InovAgro, Proirriga, Prodecoop, and PCA, aimed at production modernization, machinery acquisition, sustainability, irrigation, and strengthening cooperatives. Family farming is supported through different modalities of Pronaf, which received BRL 18.9 billion, a 41% increase over the BRL 13.4 billion provided in the 2025/2026 Harvest Plan. The bank has also set aside BRL 646.9 million specifically for family farming in the North and Northeast regions.

Aloizio Mercadante, President of the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), stated that the financing covers producers of different scales and drives the modernization of production activities. "BNDES serves both corporate agriculture and family farming, distributing resources across all of Brazil through our network of partners. This is credit for investment, technology, innovation, and sustainability," he said.

In addition to the Harvest Plan resources, the bank continues to maintain the BNDES Rural Credit (BNDES Crédito Rural) line, with a budget of BRL 31.5 billion for the next 12 months, up from BRL 30.3 billion in the previous cycle. This modality finances investment projects, machinery and equipment acquisition, production costs, support for cooperatives, as well as Financial CPR (CPR-F) and Agribusiness Receivables Certificate (CDCA) operations. Most operations are conducted indirectly, through a network of over 80 authorized financial institutions covering approximately 93% of the national territory, thereby expanding credit access for Brazilian rural producers.

BNDES plays a strategic role in long-term investment financing for Brazilian agriculture. In addition to operating the equalizable resources of the Harvest Plan, the institution maintains its own credit lines for production modernization, machinery and equipment acquisition, technology implementation, irrigation projects, sustainability, and strengthening cooperatives. Most of these resources reach producers through an extensive network of authorized financial agents, including commercial banks, cooperatives, and regional institutions. For the agricultural sector, BNDES's role is considered crucial as it complements other financing sources and stimulates investments that can increase productivity, incorporate technological innovation, and enhance the competitiveness of Brazilian rural properties.
