en.Wedoany.com Reported - Movistar Venezuela has achieved a 92% recovery rate for mobile base stations in the "ground zero" of the epicenter by deploying three base stations supported by Starlink satellite connections. The area was severely affected by the twin earthquakes on June 24, which damaged communication infrastructure.

The earthquakes damaged telecommunications infrastructure in La Guaira, Tucacas, El Junquito, San Bernardino, and El Paraíso, and also affected an international internet service provider, causing degraded mobile data services in the initial hours after the disaster. On Tuesday (July 7), the company activated a third wireless base station using Starlink satellite services, restoring mobile data, voice calls, and SMS services in areas where ground infrastructure was destroyed.
The new base station covers Playa Grande and Caraballeda, with plans to add a site in Catia La Mar. When the ground transmission network was paralyzed by the earthquake, Starlink equipment served as the transmission means to connect wireless base stations. The company's technical team has achieved a 92% recovery rate for mobile base stations in the "ground zero" area, deployed two mobile communication vehicles to enhance coverage, and activated three free WiFi points at shelters. Additionally, Starlink's satellite SMS service remains a backup communication option for areas where ground facilities have not yet been restored.
