en.Wedoany.com Reported - Deputy Commissioner of Ramban, Jammu and Kashmir, Mohammad Alyas Khan, chaired a district-level telecom committee meeting to review the status of telecom services and signal coverage across the district, with a focus on promoting seamless and reliable connectivity in remote areas and along national highways.

The meeting brought together representatives from the military, telecom operators, and local administration. Attendees present in person included Colonel Mandeep Sheokand, Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner Varunjeet Singh Charak, BSNL Divisional Engineer Luxmi Narayan Saini, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Telecom) Mushtaq, Head Revenue Officer Reejuta Mahajan, Divisional Forest Officer, Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department (Roads and Bridges), and senior army officers. Sub-divisional magistrates, revenue officers, departmental officials, and representatives from private telecom companies participated online.
The meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing telecom infrastructure projects. The Deputy Commissioner directed BSNL, as well as private telecom service providers such as Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, to expedite the provision of reliable signal coverage in all identified shadow areas. These areas, coordinated by the district administration with police, military, and other departments, include tunnels, tourist destinations, and local pilgrimage routes.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need to strengthen telecom connectivity along the Nashri to Banihal section of National Highway 44 (NH-44), as well as in vulnerable and strategically important locations and other potential religious and public gathering sites, during the ongoing SANJY-2026. He instructed telecom operators to reassess the coverage of existing base stations to maximize service reach and improve network availability.
During the meeting, army officials raised concerns about poor mobile signal coverage in certain areas. The Deputy Commissioner ordered all telecom operators to take immediate corrective measures to improve network connectivity quality at these locations. Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner required operators to ensure that base stations are equipped with adequate backup power and fuel to maintain uninterrupted service during adverse weather and natural disasters, preventing communication disruptions in emergencies.
