en.Wedoany.com Reported - Team Chile has signed an agreement with Chilean power generator Colbún to supply 100% renewable energy to the Marlene Ahrens Olympic Training Center (CEO) in Ñuñoa, Santiago Metropolitan Region.
Under the contract, the venue will receive 1,027 GWh of electricity annually over a four-year period, with all power sourced entirely from renewable energy.
As part of the partnership extending through the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, the agreement also plans to install solar panels at the Olympic Training Center in Curauma, Valparaíso Region. Colbún and the Chilean Olympic Committee (Comité Olímpico de Chile) have not disclosed the expected installed capacity, investment amount, technology roadmap, or timeline for the photovoltaic installation.
In addition to power supply and the solar project, the agreement includes offsetting emissions generated by Team Chile's travel and competitions.
Colbún General Manager José Ignacio Escobar stated that the company is providing 100% renewable energy to the training center and helping offset travel emissions for Team Chile's journey to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The Marlene Ahrens Olympic Training Center spans over 25,000 square meters and accommodates activities for 38 sports federations. Facilities include two multi-purpose gymnasiums with a capacity of over 4,000 spectators, as well as accommodation for 100 athletes.
The Chilean Olympic Committee reported that the venue was recognized in 2023 as Latin America's first sustainable Olympic training center. Since then, its waste management system has collected and processed over 109.5 tons of waste.
Colbún has previously been involved in offsetting emissions from sports events and travel, including the 2023 Santiago Pan American and Parapan American Games, the Santiago Marathon, and international trips by Team Chile.
