en.Wedoany.com Reported - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded $400,000 to ENF Products LLC in Edmond, Oklahoma, to further develop and commercialize a nanofiber filtration technology for indoor environments. This funding comes from the EPA's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, and ENF Products previously received $100,000 in Phase I to complete proof-of-concept for the technology.

The Phase II grant will support continued development of a nanofiber filter designed to capture airborne toxins and pathogens in indoor spaces such as homes and businesses. EPA Region 6 Administrator Scott Mason stated that ENF Products' innovative project makes Oklahoma proud, helping to make homes, businesses, and other indoor environments safer and healthier, and noted that for small businesses, SBIR funding can play a significant role in transforming ideas into tested products that benefit the public.

The EPA is one of 11 federal agencies participating in the SBIR program. This program is a competitive initiative aimed at helping small businesses develop and commercialize new technologies. Phase I awardees receive $100,000 over six months to demonstrate proof-of-concept, and companies that complete Phase I can compete for a $400,000 Phase II grant to further develop and commercialize the technology. Phase II awardees are also eligible for up to $100,000 in additional matching funds if they secure an equivalent amount of third-party investment during the project period.

The EPA stated that the technologies supported by the latest round of grants address environmental challenges including per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance contamination, water quality monitoring, indoor air pollutants, recycling systems, and safer chemicals. Teresa Booeshaghi, Deputy Assistant Administrator for the EPA's Office of Applied Science and Environmental Solutions, congratulated these small businesses dedicated to driving innovation and tackling today's environmental challenges, noting that their groundbreaking ideas not only meet critical needs but also pave the way for a healthier planet and a stronger, more sustainable economy. The EPA has been operating the SBIR program for over 40 years.
