en.Wedoany.com Reported - TGS launched an environmental window period in the Pelotas Basin (Bacia de Pelotas), Brazil, in August, as a measure to protect marine biodiversity in the region. The environmental window period requires a two-month suspension of seismic research activities, set as a condition of the Seismic Research License (Licença de Pesquisa Sísmica) by the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA), and coincides with the peak period of fishing activities in the area.

TGS initiates environmental window period in Pelotas Basin in August to protect marine biodiversity

Laura Viana, TGS Global Environmental Manager, stated that from the initial project conception, research activities have considered the long-term presence and vulnerability of marine life, and the environmental window period is a suspension period for seismic research stipulated according to IBAMA requirements. Gerhard Peters, TGS Latin America Environmental Manager, emphasized that measures taken by TGS to protect marine animals, such as beach monitoring, will not be interrupted. Given the high concentration of animals in coastal areas during this window period, these activities become even more critical.

This is the first environmental window period on TGS's schedule. Seismic research in the southern region will resume in October. The next window period is expected to occur between July and September 2027. TGS's research in the Pelotas Basin began in November last year and is expected to continue until 2028. The activity has been licensed by IBAMA, as well as authorized by the Brazilian Navy and the Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).
