en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SMRT Trains recently witnessed the completion of the Proof-of-Concept (PoC) test of the Smart Train Control System (SATC), independently developed by CRSC's CASCO, at the Bishan Depot. Based on autonomous positioning and autonomous perception technologies, this system marks a significant step forward in serving customers.

In response to the growing demand for operational reliability and stability in urban rail transit, CASCO innovatively developed the SATC. The system possesses three core capabilities: autonomous positioning, autonomous perception, and safety protection. It enables trains to accurately detect the distance to the train ahead, achieving moving block safety protection; it assists drivers by intelligently identifying red signals to enhance safe train operation. In extreme scenarios such as a primary system onboard failure, the SATC can still ensure safe and efficient continuous train passage, preventing breakdowns or service interruptions, thereby enhancing the system resilience and operational continuity of urban rail transit. The system can also serve as the main signaling system for medium and low-capacity lines, offering a lightweight, cost-effective solution.

This PoC test targeted common industry pain points such as aging signaling systems and delay-causing failures on existing lines. With the support of LTA and SMRT Trains, the test was conducted in two phases, achieving multiple key performance indicators, including precise detection of the distance to the train ahead and red signal audio-visual alerts using LiDAR and cameras, as well as smooth switching between CBTC and SATC systems. The test provided technical validation for building a new-generation urban rail transit assurance system and explored innovative pathways for the industry's transition from traditional reliability assurance to resilient operations.

As the first overseas application of the SATC, this validation took only three months from system deployment to the verification of all indicators, demonstrating CASCO's technical strength and rapid response capability. It also opens up broad prospects for the application of high-resilience signaling systems in the international market. In the future, CASCO will continue to drive innovation in key core technologies, contributing to the high-quality development of global urban rail transit with safer, more reliable, and more resilient signaling system solutions.
