en.Wedoany.com Reported - Spanish companies Cuerva y Alto Infraestructure are developing the first large-scale data center in the town of Escúzar, in the province of Granada, marking the beginning of similar facilities in the Andalusia region. The project aims to create one of Spain's largest artificial intelligence and high-performance computing data centers, while positioning Andalusia as a strategic hub for advanced digital infrastructure.
According to the developers, this project helps consolidate Granada's status as a technology and energy center in Southern Europe. Its advantages rely on the talent pool of the University of Granada, industrial development potential, and one of Europe's most competitive energy structures. Currently, Alto Infrastructure has initiated the development of the first phase of data center infrastructure SP01, simultaneously advancing the required power supply and related facilities.
The project is expected to drive potential investments exceeding 3 billion euros, with approximately 700 million euros allocated for the overall data center infrastructure development. The remaining funds will be used for customer-deployed servers, graphics processing units, and advanced computing platforms within the park. The SP01 data center is designed to support high-density computing loads to sustain the training and operation of advanced artificial intelligence models.
Upon full completion, the project requires up to 100 megawatts of redundant power capacity, imposing high demands on stability and redundancy. To meet this need, a regional power supply enhancement plan has been formulated: expanding the existing Escúzar 132/66/20 kV substation for the initial data center connection, followed by the construction of a new 220/132 kV substation connected to Spain's national grid (Red Eléctrica de España). The project will be implemented in phases, with the first phase scheduled to commence operations in June 2027, followed by gradual capacity additions in 2027 and 2028.
