en.Wedoany.com Reported - VIAVI Solutions Inc. (VIAVI, NASDAQ: VIAV) has secured €1.1 million in funding from the European Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) and Horizon Europe to advance the SHIELD-6G project. This project aims to develop a comprehensive AI-driven cyber threat intelligence platform for 6G networks, enabling interoperable security, orchestration, and regulatory compliance.

6G Cybersecurity

As the number of telecom intrusion incidents increases and the threat of quantum network attacks moves from theory to reality, cybersecurity has become a strategic priority for operators, enterprises, and governments worldwide. As part of the SHIELD-6G project, VIAVI will leverage its TeraVM AI RAN Scenario Generator (RSG) to develop digital twins, enabling AI-driven security models to be developed, tested, and validated before the first commercial 6G signal goes live. This technology generates realistic network datasets, enabling intelligent anomaly detection and continuous optimization of AI-based security mechanisms, ensuring vulnerabilities are identified and addressed before they can be exploited in live networks.

Ian Langley, Senior Vice President of Wireless, Security, and Applications at VIAVI, stated that the security of 6G networks must be built from day one, requiring the ability to simulate, test, and detect threats before the first commercial 6G signal goes live. Its AI RSG technology has already been used to provide a digital twin foundation to better understand 6G propagation, improve energy consumption, and reduce FR3 signal interference. SHIELD-6G extends this capability directly into the security domain.

SHIELD-6G is one of 20 new projects selected under the Horizon Europe SNS JU program, aimed at accelerating European 6G research and innovation. VIAVI joins a European consortium coordinated by University College Dublin, collaborating with global industry leaders such as Ericsson, Nokia, Thales, and Thales SIX, as well as network operators Telefónica and Latvian LMT.
