en.Wedoany.com Reported - Himalaya Shipping has secured a new time charter contract for one of its LNG dual-fuel Newcastlemax bulk carriers. The company, backed by Tor Olav Trøim and led by Lars-Christian Svensen, has chartered out the 2024-built 210,000 dwt bulker "Mount Aconcagua" for a period of 16 to 18 months. The new contract is expected to commence in late July after the expiration of the existing charter. The vessel will be chartered at a rate linked to the Baltic 5TC index, with a significant premium. The agreement also includes an option to convert the charter to a fixed rate based on the forward freight agreement (FFA) curve. The charterer's identity was not disclosed.
"Mount Aconcagua" is one of 12 LNG dual-fuel Newcastlemax bulk carriers in Himalaya Shipping's fleet, delivered between 2023 and 2024 from New Times Shipyard. According to the company's fleet list, the vessel was previously operating under an index-linked contract with a premium and scrubber benefits, with the charter expiring in May 2026 (with an extension option). The latest charter continues Himalaya Shipping's premium index-linked model. Capesize rates have recently strengthened. Himalaya Shipping reported an average gross TCE income of approximately $52,900 per day in June, including an average scrubber benefit of about $1,300 per day. Its seven vessels operating under index-linked charters averaged around $52,500 per day, while five vessels on fixed-rate charters averaged about $53,400 per day. The Baltic 5TC 180 Capesize index averaged $35,414 in June.
