Shipowners from Sweden, Norway, and Canada order four VINGA tankers for delivery in 2028-2029

Meling, and Älvtank ordered four VINGA series product tankers, which will be built at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard's Yangzhou base, with deliveries scheduled between 2028 and 2029. This order brings the cumulative number of VINGA series vessels on order to 26, with the order value not yet disclosed.

Of the four new vessels, two will be held by FureBear, a joint venture between Sweden's Furetank and Canada's Algoma Central Corporation; the other two will be held by Norway's O.H. Meling and Sweden's Älvtank, respectively. Among them, O.H. Meling is ordering VINGA series vessels for the first time, while Älvtank currently owns three vessels of the same series, with its first VINGA vessels delivered in 2018.

All new vessels are 17,999 DWT, 1A ice-class product tankers, jointly designed by Furetank and FKAB Marine Design. The vessels are equipped with dual-fuel propulsion systems capable of running on liquefied biomethane (LBM), LNG, or marine diesel, and are fitted with shore power connection equipment and battery hybrid systems.

Upon delivery, all four vessels will fly the Swedish flag and join the Gothia Tanker Alliance, with Furetank Chartering responsible for commercial management. The alliance currently operates approximately 40 small and medium-sized product tankers in European waters.

The order was announced during the naming ceremony of the Fure Vasa, the 18th vessel in the VINGA series, which was previously built by a Chinese shipyard and arrived in Europe in 2026. In June, the cumulative number of VINGA series vessels on order stood at 22; with these four new additions, the total has increased to 26.
