en.Wedoany.com Reported - India's first high-speed rail corridor, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project, has achieved a significant engineering milestone. All 13 heavy portal girders in Ahmedabad have been installed, including the final girder placed in the Sabarmati section. This structure weighs approximately 1,640 metric tons, measures 34.5 meters in length with a cross-section of 5.5 meters by 4.5 meters, and is one of the heaviest precast portal girders used in the entire project. Despite its immense size and weight, the entire installation operation was completed in about three hours.

These 13 portal girders are distributed across three key railway junctions: five in the Maninagar section (installed above the Mumbai-Ahmedabad main railway line), seven in the Vatva section, and one in the Sabarmati section (installed above the Ahmedabad-Delhi main railway line). These specially designed structures provide essential support for the elevated high-speed train viaduct while maintaining sufficient clearance for railway traffic below.

The 18-kilometer-long bullet train viaduct traverses Ahmedabad, passing over several busy existing railway lines in an elevated manner. The installation of the final portal girder utilized a 2,200-metric-ton crawler crane, and the lifting operation was particularly challenging due to limited workspace on site. The engineering team coordinated closely with Indian Railways to ensure that the large-scale lifting operations above active railway lines did not disrupt regular train services.
