en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 15, 2026, the Queensland Government has appointed DT Infrastructure as the principal contractor for accessibility, security system, and passenger space upgrades at Rockhampton and Bundaberg railway stations, with construction set to commence later this year.

These two stations are key transport hubs along the Queensland coast, serving nearly 140,000 passengers annually. The upgrades are part of the Queensland Government's Regional Rail Infrastructure Investment Plan, aimed at modernizing one of the oldest stations in the rail network.
Specific upgrades include the installation of new CCTV and signage systems, tactile ground surface indicators, handrails in necessary locations, variable-height baggage check-in counters, and accessible restrooms. The station parking lots will be upgraded simultaneously, and a new drop-off zone integrated with other public transport operators will be constructed.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Brent Mickelberg, stated that these upgrades will bring modern infrastructure to regional Queensland. He noted that passenger and freight rail services are vital to local communities, and the government is providing infrastructure to support development needs. Member for Rockhampton, Donna Kirkland, said the project is welcomed by the community, helping to support local jobs and provide much-needed infrastructure. Member for Burnett, Stephen Bennett, believes the upgrades will not only provide better connectivity for travelers within the state but also strengthen freight lines to help local goods reach markets more efficiently.
