Cross-border passenger traffic on China-Laos Railway up over 50% in first 8 months

The China-Laos Railway began operation on December 3, 2021. With the travel advantage of same-day arrival from Kunming to Vientiane, Laos, the China-Laos Railway has become an increasingly popular choice for Chinese and foreign tourists. The number of international passenger trains between Kunming and Vientiane has increased from 2 at the initial stage of operation to 4 per day, cross-border passenger seats have increased from 250 to 420, and the number of people entering and exiting through the border has risen from 300 per day to a maximum of 1,640. As of September 7 this year, the China-Laos Railway has operated a total of 3,789 cross-border passenger trains and carried 926,000 cross-border passengers from more than 120 countries and regions.

In the face of continuously rising cross-border passenger flow, China Railway Kunming Bureau Group Co., Ltd. has continuously optimized cross-border transport service support. At stations such as Xishuangbanna and Pu'er as well as on international passenger trains, services are provided to passengers in Chinese, Lao, and English. Passenger transport staff are assigned in key areas to strengthen guidance services, dedicated windows for key passengers are set up, and items such as wheelchairs and commonly used medicines are provided to assist passengers.
At present, 4 international passenger trains operate daily between Kunming and Vientiane, customs clearance at the Mohan railway port takes about 50 minutes, and the fastest full journey can be completed in 9 hours and 36 minutes. Cross-border travel with departure in the morning and arrival in the evening has become the norm.
