Chiltern Main Line to Replace 1 km of Track and Demolish Old HS2 Bridge This Weekend

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 9, Network Rail announced that it will close the Chiltern Main Line section between Northolt Park and Haddenham & Thame Parkway on September 12-13 to carry out approximately 1 km of track replacement work at High Wycombe, while also conducting drainage works at Princes Risborough; the HS2 construction team will also demolish the old Harvil Road highway bridge near West Ruislip. The High Wycombe track renewal represents an investment of approximately £500,000.

The demolition of the old Harvil Road bridge is being carried out by SCS JV, the Phase One contractor for HS2. HS2 plans to use the railway closure window from 22:00 on September 11 to 06:00 on September 14 to demolish the old bridge structure in the Skip Lane area, with local road closures in place during construction. Harvil Road had previously been realigned due to HS2 construction, with a new highway bridge crossing the high-speed railway built; the demolition of the old bridge is follow-on work after the new road structure was brought into use.

The High Wycombe section will see approximately 1 km of existing track replaced, while drainage works will be carried out simultaneously at Princes Risborough. Network Rail has scheduled all three projects within the same closure window to reduce multiple line possessions. On September 12-13, Chiltern Railways passenger services will be suspended all day between Northolt Park and Haddenham & Thame Parkway, with replacement buses operating.

HS2's main works in the Harvil Road area also include the Copthall tunnel and associated maintenance facilities. Copthall is an 880-metre cut-and-cover tunnel located between the Colne Valley Viaduct and the Northolt Tunnel. The main tunnel structure, drainage, retaining walls and five natural ventilation facilities have been completed, with backfilling above the tunnel, maintenance sidings and associated works planned to continue until the end of 2026.
