Gamuda–MTR Joint Venture Secures AU$880 Million Sydney Metro Parramatta Station Contract

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Sydney Metro has awarded the Parramatta Integrated Station Development project on the Western Line to the Riverside Link Consortium, comprising Gamuda Engineering, Gamuda Australia, and MTR Corporation Australia. The main station works contract is valued at AU$880 million, with the consortium responsible for the design and construction of the underground Parramatta metro station, station precinct, and associated infrastructure. Gamuda's two entities collectively hold an 80% share, while MTR Australia holds 20%. Works entered the contract execution period on 4 September, targeting completion ahead of the opening of the Sydney Metro Western Line in 2032.

The project also includes integrated development above the station and in the surrounding area. Gamuda and MTR Australia will participate in the associated development rights on a 50:50 basis, planning four buildings: a 43-storey build-to-rent residential tower, a 29-storey commercial office building, a 24-storey student accommodation building, and an 8-storey hotel. The residential tower is planned to deliver 470 apartments, and the student accommodation is planned to provide 500 units. These proposals remain subject to further detailed design and planning approvals.

The Parramatta station site is located within the area bounded by George Street, Macquarie Street, Church Street, and Smith Street. Major excavation and structural works for the station box have been completed in the earlier phase. The station box is approximately 192 metres long, 25 metres wide, and 28 metres deep. The site will be handed over from the previous tunnelling and civil works contractor to the new-phase station construction contractor. Main construction works for Parramatta station are scheduled to commence in mid-2027.

The Sydney Metro Western Line spans 24 kilometres, connecting Parramatta with the Sydney central business district. It will feature nine new stations and an automated, driverless train system, with opening planned for 2032. Gamuda previously secured the Stations Package West contract on the Western Line, covering the design and construction of five stations: Westmead, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock, and The Bays. With the addition of the Parramatta Integrated Station project, Gamuda is now involved in the delivery of six stations on the line.

MTR is also involved in the Sydney Metro Western Line trains, systems, operations, and maintenance contract. Public project materials from Sydney Metro show that the Metro Trains West consortium, comprising MTR and CRRC, is responsible for the line's trains, systems, operations, and maintenance. The Parramatta Integrated Station contract represents another independent contract secured by MTR on the line.
