CONCOR Awards ₹89.09 Million Contract for 12 BLSS Freight Rakes

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 8, Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) awarded a freight rolling stock procurement contract worth ₹89.09 million to the Eastern Railway Jamalpur Locomotive Workshop, covering the supply of 12 BLSS-type freight rakes, along with matching BVCM-type brake vans. The Jamalpur Locomotive Workshop, located in Munger, Bihar, will be responsible for the manufacturing and supply of this batch of vehicles.

CONCOR's existing BLSS rakes are primarily used for container rail transport. Company public technical documents show that a BLSS rake unit consists of two car types, BLSS-A and BLSS-B, paired with BVCM-type bogie brake vans; BLSS-A is built to RDSO drawing series WD-22061-S-01, BLSS-B to drawing series WD-22062-S-01, and the BVCM brake van complies with RDSO specification WD-01-BVCM-2017.

As of the end of March 2025, CONCOR owned 336 BLSS rakes, while also operating multiple container freight car types including BLC, BLCM, BLL, BLCS, and BFKHN, with a total wagon fleet of 17,203 units, in addition to 282 BVZI brake vans. The company has previously made sustained procurements of BLSS rakes to expand its container rail transport equipment.

In March 2025, CONCOR also signed a contract with GATX India for the supply of 10 BLSS rakes, with a contract value of ₹192 million, under a 10-year operating lease model, with a vehicle delivery cycle of 435 days. The current procurement of 12 BLSS rakes from the Jamalpur Locomotive Workshop constitutes a separate, independent order, differing in procuring entity, contract model, and supplier.
