Alstom launches commercial operations on 31.5 km Indore Metro Yellow Line in India

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 7, Alstom announced that its Movia metro trains and Urbalis Forward Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system have entered commercial service with the next phase of the Indore Metro Yellow Line in India. Following this launch, the Yellow Line's current mainline operations have reached 16.72 km with 16 stations, with a total of 10 Alstom trains in service at GoA1 automation level. The mainline is equipped with Automatic Train Protection (ATP), supported by the Gandhinagar depot and test track.

The Indore Metro Yellow Line has a planned total length of 31.5 km. Alstom has delivered 23 of the planned 25 Movia trains to Indore. The trains feature a 3-car configuration, with a maximum operating speed of 80 km/h, 144 seats per train, and a rated standing capacity of 981 passengers. The rolling stock is manufactured at Alstom's Savli plant in Gujarat, India.

Alstom has deployed the Urbalis Forward CBTC signaling system on the line and provides train control and communication systems. The onboard Train Control and Management System (TCMS) integrates automatic track inspection functionality, and the trains are also equipped with continuous video surveillance, abandoned object detection, empty train detection, and communication systems between the driver and the control center.

This project is part of the combined Bhopal–Indore Metro contract that Alstom was awarded by the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) in 2022. The contract is valued at approximately €387 million and covers 52 three-car Movia metro trains, totaling 156 cars, of which 27 are for Bhopal and 25 for Indore. Alstom is responsible for the design, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the rolling stock, along with 15 years of comprehensive fleet maintenance services. The contract also includes CBTC, train control, and communication systems, as well as 7 years of maintenance services for these systems.

The first section of the Indore Metro entered commercial operation in June 2025, also using Alstom Movia trains and CBTC systems. The September 7 milestone marks the extension of commercial operations to the subsequent section of the Yellow Line, not a new rolling stock or signaling system procurement contract. Alstom is currently still executing the delivery of the remaining 2 Movia trains for Indore.
