en.Wedoany.com Reported - South African wood fiber renewable resources group Sappi has announced its participation in the ZDHC Foundation's "Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals" Roadmap Program. This initiative aims to eliminate hazardous chemicals from the global supply chain of the fashion industry. ZDHC stands for "Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals."

Sappi supplies high-quality dissolving wood pulp to the fashion industry through its Sappi Verve brand. This renewable raw material is used to produce soft, breathable fabrics, covering a range of products including home textiles, everyday apparel, workwear, and fashion garments. Dissolving wood pulp is primarily used to manufacture cellulose fibers such as lyocell and viscose.

Krelyne Andrew, Head of Sustainability at Sappi Verve, stated that the collaboration with ZDHC helps support customers and suppliers in meeting evolving industry expectations, while reinforcing the group's global commitment to the responsible management of chemicals in its dissolving wood pulp operations.

As a raw material supplier, Sappi recognizes that achieving more sustainable outcomes requires collaboration beyond its own operations. Joining ZDHC enhances the group's ability to cooperate with fiber producers, manufacturers, brands, and other partners in the Sappi Verve value chain to address shared challenges such as water management, chemical management, and supply chain transparency.

Sappi stated that responsible textile manufacturing does not begin at the garment factory. For Sappi Verve, the key lies in bridging the gap between raw materials and downstream manufacturing, reflecting that meaningful environmental progress is a shared responsibility requiring partnerships at every stage of the fabric journey.

The group sources its wood fiber from responsibly managed forests in South Africa and North America, and is actively collaborating with other industry players to achieve a more sustainable, low-impact textile industry.
