Waaree Expands Arizona Module Plant to 1.6GW

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Indian solar module manufacturer Waaree Energies has approved a $37 million investment to increase the annual rated capacity of its module factory in Arizona, USA, from 1GW to 1.6GW.

This capital expenditure is being executed by Waaree's wholly owned U.S. subsidiary, Waaree Solar Americas (WSA), by replacing the plant's existing module production lines with higher-efficiency equipment. Upon completion of the expansion, Waaree's combined module manufacturing capacity in the U.S. will reach 4.8GW, comprising 3.2GW in Texas and 1.6GW in Arizona. The project is expected to be funded through a combination of debt financing and internal accruals.

Waaree announced its U.S. expansion plans in late 2023, committing to a total investment of up to $1 billion, with the goal of raising its annual rated capacity in the U.S. to up to 5GW by 2027. Against the backdrop of growing demand for domestically manufactured modules in the U.S., the company continues to expand its manufacturing footprint in the country.

In terms of orders, Waaree secured over 1.2GW of new U.S. orders in the first quarter of fiscal year 2025-26. In June 2025, it signed a 586MW module supply agreement with North Carolina-based independent power producer Pine Gate Renewables, valued at $176 million, covering four solar PV projects, with deliveries scheduled for fiscal year 2026-27. Additionally, WSA signed a 599MW module supply agreement with an undisclosed U.S. independent power producer, with deliveries slated for 2026, with the modules to be manufactured at its Texas facility.

In July 2026, the company secured a 236.22MW "Made in America" module supply contract for a utility-scale solar project in Flemingsburg, Kentucky, supplying n-type G12R modules (615Wp and 620Wp specifications), produced at its Brookshire, Texas, facility. This plant, which reached an annual rated capacity of 3.2GW after adding 1.6GW of new capacity, supplies modules for utility-scale and commercial & industrial solar projects.

The company has also opposed a ruling issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in June 2026. CBP determined that there is "substantial evidence" indicating Waaree circumvented antidumping/countervailing duties imposed on crystalline silicon photovoltaic cells imported from Vietnam and Malaysia, and required affected entries of goods to be suspended from release or reclassified pending liquidation instructions.

Domestically in India, Waaree's board has approved the transfer of plant and machinery from the Tumb facility (1GW) and the Nandigram facility (1.11GW) to the Chikhli manufacturing base in Gujarat, for the purpose of consolidating existing module capacity rather than adding 2.11GW of new capacity. As of December 2025, the company's total solar module capacity in India (including Indosolar) stood at 20.17GW; of this, 16.44GW of module capacity at the Chikhli base has been included in the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II, and the base also has 5.4GW of solar cell capacity.
