en.Wedoany.com Reported - Sky Perfect JSAT has signed a new memorandum of understanding with lunar exploration company ispace to exchange technical information and conduct system compatibility studies, aiming to establish a communication link between ispace's next-generation lunar lander "ULTRA" and the JSAT Space Line ground station. The lander is planned for Mission 3, targeting a launch in 2028. The collaboration will also explore the feasibility of demonstration activities between the spacecraft and the ground station. The two companies announced the memorandum on July 16.

ispace is seeking to expand options for ground station services and mission support capabilities. ispace will explore the feasibility of using the JSAT Space Line ground station infrastructure to support communications for future lunar exploration missions. The study will also examine the potential use of this service as a backup for the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) ground station network operated by the European Space Agency (ESA).

The two companies will assess the demand and value of domestic ground station services for lunar exploration missions, while working to build communication infrastructure that supports Japan's future lunar exploration activities. This collaboration aims to contribute to the development of next-generation deep space communication infrastructure.

ispace founder and CEO Takeshi Hakamada stated in a press release that the collaboration with Sky Perfect JSAT on Mission 3 is significant not only for verifying the technical effectiveness of JSAT Space Line but also for expanding the potential use of Japan's commercial ground station infrastructure in lunar exploration missions.
