en.Wedoany.com Reported - The National Iranian Copper Industries Company (NICICO) produced approximately 432,000 tons of copper concentrate in the first three months of the Iranian calendar year 1405 (March 21 to June 21, 2026), exceeding the original plan by 6%. Among them, the monthly output in the third month (May 22 to June 21) exceeded 148,000 tons, 12% higher than the planned target.
Established in 1972, NICICO is Iran's largest copper producer and one of the world's significant copper enterprises. The company is primarily engaged in copper mining, copper concentrate production, and the manufacturing of copper products (including cathode copper, copper plates, copper billets, and wire rods). It owns world-class open-pit copper mines such as Sarcheshmeh and Sungun. According to company data, Iran's copper reserves are estimated at 19 billion tons.
During the period from March to June 2026, NICICO's molybdenum concentrate output reached 3,040 tons, total ore extraction amounted to 93 million tons, and sulfide ore raw material production stood at 18.9 million tons. Overall production performance exceeded expectations, indicating an improvement in the company's production efficiency.
NICICO is a key pillar of Iran's mining development, and the growth in its copper concentrate output helps enhance export potential and meet domestic demand. Leveraging large mines such as Sarcheshmeh and Sungun, NICICO has a strong production foundation and promising long-term development prospects. The company plans to expand capacity in the coming years, aiming to increase its annual copper cathode production capacity from 280,000 tons to over 1 million tons.
Iran is a globally important mineral resource country, holding approximately 7% of the world's mineral reserves. The above-expectation growth in copper concentrate output has positive implications for the development of Iran's non-oil economy.
