The renovation project included the construction of a new 40-meter-wide, 200-meter-long steel structure roof covering an area of 8,720 square meters, spanning the platforms to create a weather-protected waiting area. A 36-meter-wide, 1,770-square-meter sky concourse connects both sides of the city, improving passenger flow. Two new foot overbridges, 6 meters and 9 meters wide respectively, were added to facilitate passenger movement, and energy-efficient LED lighting and anti-skid flooring were installed in passenger areas.

Station accessibility was enhanced with a new 300-square-meter entrance building (Entrance No. 2) and a 4,855-square-meter parking lot to improve last-mile connectivity. Both sides of the station are now accessible, effectively reducing congestion. The station currently handles an average daily footfall of 7,500 passengers and serves 66 up and 66 down trains, including two pairs of Vande Bharat Express trains and several long-distance trains.

According to Northern Railway, Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu inspected the renovation before the proposed inauguration ceremony by the Prime Minister, checking passenger facilities and safety preparations. Bittu instructed officials to ensure high standards of safety, security, and passenger convenience. This renovation is part of the central Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which has selected 30 stations in Punjab for modernization. Upgrades at Anandpur Sahib, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, and Muktsar stations have been completed, while upgrades at other stations are ongoing.
