en.Wedoany.com Reported - China's largest natural gas producer in the southwestern region, PetroChina Southwest Oil and Gas Field Company, achieved dual growth in oil and gas production in the first half of this year, cumulatively producing 25.31 billion cubic meters of natural gas and surpassing 20 million tons of oil equivalent, setting a new historical high for the same period.

As the main natural gas supplier in the southwestern region, the company drilled five high-yield industrial gas wells with a daily output of one million cubic meters in the first half of this year. Natural gas production increased by 1.296 billion cubic meters compared to the same period last year, a growth of 5.4%; crude oil production surged 62.26% year-on-year, and oil equivalent increased by 1.15 million tons compared to the same period last year, a growth of approximately 6%. A company official stated that significant breakthroughs have been made in exploration, with the discovery of the first tight oil field in the Sichuan Basin—the Shunqing Oil Field—filling a gap in large-scale tight oil exploration in the basin and laying a solid resource foundation for future crude oil production growth.
The Sichuan Basin holds China's richest natural gas resources, but due to its exceptionally complex geological structures, it is known in the industry as the "Natural Gas Geological Museum." The difficulty of ultra-deep natural gas exploration and development ranks first in China. Facing challenges such as complex reservoir conditions and increasing development difficulty, the company has promoted efficient construction of major gas fields like the Anyue and Penglai fields in the conventional gas sector, while a number of old wells have regained industrial gas flow through precise retesting. In the unconventional gas sector, deep shale gas and tight gas development technologies have been continuously iterated, steadily improving single-well production and recovery rates.

Yang Hongzhi, Deputy Chief Geologist of the company, stated that in the second half of the year, the plan is to complete 177 production wells and build a new annual production capacity of 4.188 billion cubic meters. By the end of this year, the company's oil equivalent is expected to exceed 41 million tons, laying the foundation for sustained large-scale production growth during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period.
As the largest natural gas production and supply enterprise in southwestern China, the company undertakes over 75% of the natural gas supply tasks in the Sichuan-Chongqing region and 25% of the national natural gas peak-shaving tasks. The natural gas produced not only supports the construction of a thousand-billion-cubic-meter-level natural gas production base in the Sichuan-Chongqing region but is also transported via energy corridors such as the "Sichuan-to-East Gas Pipeline" to the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, benefiting hundreds of millions of people along the route. This plays a crucial role in ensuring national energy security and promoting green and low-carbon development in the region.
