Italy's ERG Signs 800 GWh Wind Power Purchase Agreement
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 20, Italian renewable energy company ERG signed a seven-year wind power purchase agreement (PPA) with Norwegian utility Statkraft. The PPA will take effect from January 1, 2027, covering the electricity output from ERG's existing onshore wind farms in southern Italy, with a total supply exceeding 800 GWh over the contract period, accompanied by equivalent guarantees of origin.
Under the agreement, ERG will supply approximately 118 GWh of electricity to Statkraft annually. The deal adopts a financial PPA structure settled based on actual generation, helping the power producer lock in long-term electricity sales arrangements while enabling the buyer to expand its renewable energy portfolio in the Italian market. For wind farm operators, long-term PPAs enhance revenue stability and provide a reference for subsequent operations and maintenance, capacity expansion, or asset optimization.
ERG stated that following the signing of this wind PPA, the company has contracted over 3.8 TWh of electricity annually over the past five years. Statkraft, meanwhile, will incorporate the agreement into its Italian market portfolio to serve the green electricity needs of corporate clients. The subsequent execution of the wind PPA will depend on the actual generation performance of the wind farms, market price fluctuations, settlement mechanisms, and the delivery arrangements for guarantees of origin.
