GE Vernova Secures Order for 16 Wind Turbines for 96 MW Scottish Wind Farm

en.Wedoany.com Reported - GE Vernova has signed a turbine supply agreement with the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) of Ireland to provide 16 units of its 6.1 MW-158m onshore wind turbines for the Chleansaid Wind Farm in the Scottish Highlands, with a total installed capacity of 96 MW. This marks the first application of GE Vernova's Cypress 6 MW-class onshore wind turbines in a UK project, and the order has been booked in the company's third quarter of 2026.

The turbines supplied for this project are GE Vernova's 6.1 MW-158m Cypress models, each featuring a 158-meter rotor diameter and utilizing segmented blade technology. The project is located near Lairg in the Scottish Highlands, and the turbines will be manufactured in Germany. In addition to the supply of 16 turbine units, GE Vernova will also undertake long-term service work for the project, with a service agreement term of 20 years.

Project owner ESB made its final investment decision on September 2 and has completed the signing of major construction contracts. The Chleansaid Wind Farm is wholly owned by ESB, received planning permission in 2023, and has also secured a 15-year Contract for Difference (CfD). Construction of the project is scheduled to commence later in 2026, with a target of achieving commercial operation in 2028.

The project delivery chain has been confirmed: GE Vernova is responsible for the wind turbine generators and long-term service, Kirby Group is responsible for the electrical balance of plant (EBoP), and Farrans Construction is responsible for the civil balance of plant (CBoP). Chleansaid is also ESB's first fully self-developed onshore wind project in Scotland to reach the construction phase, and is part of its current onshore wind development pipeline of approximately 2 GW in Scotland and Wales.
