en.Wedoany.com Reported - Brazilian network operator Eletronet will deliver the first connectivity infrastructure for the Scala AI City project developed by Scala Data Centers. Located in Eldorado do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, the project has a total planned capacity of 5 GW and is designed to support artificial intelligence and high-performance computing operations.

Under the agreement, Eletronet will deploy a Point of Presence (PoP) within the campus, serving as the entry point for connectivity services. This structure follows a neutral infrastructure model, enabling Scala AI City customers to access multiple operators, diverse communication routes, and various digital ecosystems. Eletronet will provide a connectivity layer tailored for critical AI applications, focusing on high availability, low latency, and redundancy—features essential for AI model training workloads and large-scale inference operations.
In addition to the PoP, Eletronet will expand its interconnection network to serve the new campus. The project includes integrating Scala AI City into the operator's national network and extending infrastructure through planned new edge data centers in Chuí (RS state) and Foz do Iguaçu (PR state). This enables providers and enterprises in southern Brazil, as well as markets such as Uruguay and Paraguay, to access the campus via new communication routes. Eletronet CEO Rogerio Garchet stated that connectivity has become a key strategic element for the new generation of data centers dedicated to artificial intelligence.
Scala AI City aims to meet the growing demand from hyperscale cloud providers, cloud service providers, and AI enterprises for high-density processing infrastructure. Upon completion, the complex will have a total capacity of 5 GW, with the first phase including a data center offering 54 MW of IT capacity across a 5.35 million square meter site. The campus will also connect to international strategic routes, including the Malbec submarine cable, thereby expanding global connectivity options and enhancing infrastructure resilience for critical operations. In terms of sustainability, the project is designed to use 100% renewable and certified energy, with a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) below 1.2 and a Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) of zero for cooling systems, eliminating continuous water consumption during its phases.
Luciano Fialho, Senior Vice President of Enterprise Development at Scala Data Centers, stated that terrestrial connectivity is one of the pillars supporting mission-critical operations, and the partnership with Eletronet strengthens this layer from the early stages of development while expanding interconnection options for hyperscale customers. Through this collaboration, Eletronet becomes part of one of the largest digital infrastructure projects in Latin America, providing the connectivity foundation for Scala Data Centers' AI campus operations.
