en.Wedoany.com Reported - Digital Realty, the world's largest cloud and carrier-neutral data center platform, announced the official activation of its 6.4 MW Data Center II (NBO2) in Nairobi, Kenya, expanding the scale of its Nairobi campus. The activation coincides with iColo's rebranding to Digital Realty in Kenya and Mozambique, further extending the company's data center capacity and interconnection coverage in East Africa.

NBO2 was built in parallel with the previously operational Data Center I (NBO1), jointly supporting the campus's positioning for cloud services, interconnection, and data-driven businesses in East Africa. Campus customers can access over 100 networks, two internet exchange points, and a satellite earth station for content distribution, cross-border connectivity, data sovereignty strategies, and highly resilient digital services. The satellite earth station adds a connectivity route for areas with limited terrestrial communications infrastructure, helping to strengthen highly resilient and geographically distributed connectivity solutions.

Currently, cloud adoption, enterprise digitalization, data sovereignty requirements, and the demand for always-on digital services are reshaping infrastructure decisions in East Africa. Digital Realty stated that with the new capacity and interconnection options in Nairobi, customers can access global platforms, partners, and market channels while safeguarding the sovereignty of critical data and applications.

Wanja Muriithi, Country Manager for Digital Realty Kenya, stated that the NBO2 activation and brand transition stem from the sustained growth of Kenya's digital economy and the evolution of iColo's role within the global platform. Combining Nairobi's local ecosystem with the Digital Realty global brand enables customers to grow their businesses in Kenya while accessing the community of carriers, cloud providers, content providers, and enterprises shaping the global digital economy. Marcel Louw, Managing Director for Africa at the company, noted that digital transformation relies on localized, interconnectable, and globally scalable infrastructure. The launch of NBO2 reinforces Nairobi's position as a gateway to East Africa and extends the value of PlatformDIGITAL® to customers seeking highly resilient colocation, interconnection, and hybrid IT solutions.
