en.Wedoany.com Reported - Électricité de France (EDF) has awarded ANDRITZ a contract to supply a new pump-turbine and related equipment for the modernization of the Vouglans/Saut-Mortier pumped storage project in the Jura region of France.

The contract value is in the lower tens of millions of euros, covering the supply of a 17MW variable-speed pump-turbine and associated equipment. The order has been booked in ANDRITZ's order intake for the second quarter of 2026.

The project will transform the existing cascade hydropower plant on the Ain River into a three-reservoir system, connecting the Coiselet, Saut-Mortier, and Vouglans reservoirs.

The addition of the new pump-turbine is expected to increase the total generation capacity of the Vouglans/Saut-Mortier scheme by approximately 80MW to 85MW, while the storage capacity will increase from 50GWh to 250GWh.

ANDRITZ stated that this modernization will make better use of existing infrastructure, while increasing available water volume and taking into account ecological and regional requirements.

Under the contract, ANDRITZ is responsible for the design, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning, and governor of the pump-turbine; consortium partner Ingeteam will supply the variable-speed motor-generator and full-power converter.

The project execution period is planned from 2026 to 2031, encompassing full lifecycle services including design, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning. It represents a concrete implementation of France's renewable energy development strategy in the field of pumped storage.
