Wedoany.com Report-May 21, Construction has begun on the Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA)-designed Misk Heritage Museum, named “Asaan,” in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. Spanning 40,000 square meters, the museum will showcase cultural artifacts and art, highlighting traditional crafts, customs, and social values through exhibitions, workshops, and interactive activities.

Inspired by Najdi architectural traditions, the museum will be constructed using locally sourced clay mud-bricks, marking ZHA’s first adobe project. The design integrates sustainable materials with cultural significance, reflecting the region’s heritage. The facility will include a conservation laboratory, a knowledge exchange hub, and a training area to support educational and cultural initiatives.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held on Museum Day, was attended by representatives from the Mohammed bin Salman Foundation (Misk), Diriyah Company, and ZHA. The event marked a significant milestone in the project’s development, emphasizing its role in preserving and promoting cultural heritage.

Jerry Inzerillo, Chief Executive of Diriyah Company, stated: “The museum supports our broader goal of establishing Diriyah as a world-class destination that celebrates history, culture, and national identity. We’re excited about the programs and activities Asaan will bring, as they will offer something truly special for the community and for visitors from around the world.”

The name “Asaan,” derived from an Arabic term for heritage passed down through generations, underscores the museum’s mission to connect past and present. As part of Diriyah’s contribution to Saudi Arabia’s 2030 Vision, the project aims to enhance cultural tourism and support economic diversification through sustainable development.
