en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 21, China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) officially commenced construction of Section D of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project in Malaysia, building a 25 km railway line connecting the Port Klang Customs Station to Northport and Westport.

The main line construction of Phase 1 of the ECRL is nearing completion and is gradually entering the testing and commissioning phase. The launch of Section D marks a new stage in the development of railway connectivity in Malaysia.

The Malaysian government approved the scope revision of the ECRL project in 2025 and signed the framework terms of Supplementary Agreement 7 for the CCCC ECRL project in May of the same year. The main change involves converting Section D from a dual-gauge project to a "one-standard, one-meter" gauge project, aimed at optimizing freight services between the ECRL and KTMB railway networks, enhancing overall freight capacity and operational efficiency.

As an extension of the ECRL project, Section D helps strengthen economic and trade exchanges between the east and west coasts, enabling rail-port intermodal transport and improving logistics efficiency at Port Klang. This section holds significant strategic importance in enhancing the economic benefits of the ECRL project.

The main line of the ECRL, constructed by CCCC, spans a total length of 665 km, crossing the four states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, and Selangor. This project is a key infrastructure for connectivity between eastern and western Malaysia and is currently the largest single transport infrastructure project undertaken by a Chinese enterprise overseas.
