T3 Tunnel of the 121 km Railway Project in Algeria Achieves Breakthrough

The T3 Tunnel has a total length of 330 meters and is one of the key controlling works of the railway project. Dahmouni Bouzid, head of the mining line at the Algerian National Railway Authority, and representatives of the owner participated in the breakthrough event. Recent material procurement documents for the project show that the 121 km railway works are still in the continuous construction stage, with multiple sub-sections advancing bridges, tunnels, ancillary works, and construction material procurement.

The T3 Tunnel is a large-section railway tunnel, and the surrounding rock in the tunnel area is mainly Grade IV. Construction was organized using the top-heading and bench method, with surrounding rock support, safety monitoring, and process control carried out simultaneously during excavation. This breakthrough completed the connection of the main tunnel excavation, and the project will continue to advance the tunnel internal structure, ancillary facilities, and connection works with adjacent bridge and tunnel projects.

The 121 km railway line is located in northeastern Algeria, generally running north-south from Bouchegouf southward through Guelma Province, Tarf Province, and Souk Ahras Province, finally reaching Dréa. The line within Guelma Province is about 42.3 km, within Tarf Province about 2.1 km, and within Souk Ahras Province about 76.6 km. Project-related procurement documents show that bridges, tunnels, and supporting railway civil works along the line are being implemented by section.

The project construction unit has recently continued to procure trestle bridges, ventilation ducts, steel bars, waterproofing materials, formwork, and engineering vehicle parts for the 121 km railway project. Project procurement documents issued on September 17 show that Sub-section III is procuring steel trestle bridges and air supply ducts with diameters of 100 mm to 200 mm; previously, the bridge works also initiated procurement of bridge deck waterproofing membranes, polyurethane waterproof coatings, and other materials. The related construction materials will continue to be used for the construction of tunnels, bridges, and line ancillary works.
