7 AC50 Freight Locomotives from CRRC Ziyang Arrive in Baku, Azerbaijan

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 18, Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) disclosed that 7 AC50 mainline freight locomotives manufactured by CRRC Ziyang Locomotive Co., Ltd. have arrived in Baku. These locomotives will be used for freight operations on international transport corridors within Azerbaijan, under a contract for 7 freight locomotives signed between ADY and CRRC Ziyang in 2025. When ADY visited China in June this year for an inspection, these locomotives had already entered the final stage of production and were originally scheduled for delivery in September.

The AC50 adopts an AC drive traction system and is equipped with modern control and safety systems, designed for long-consist and heavy-haul freight scenarios. The locomotive's main air reservoir has a capacity of 2,000 liters and is equipped with two compressors; two locomotives can operate in multiple-unit configuration and be controlled by a single crew. The technical maintenance interval is set at 90 days. This model complies with the International Union of Railways (UIC) IIIA emission standards and can be used on routes and in areas with specific emission requirements.

ADY plans to deploy this batch of locomotives on international freight corridors running through Azerbaijan. During talks with CRRC Ziyang in June, the two parties had already begun negotiations on the additional procurement of 14 freight locomotives. The latest disclosure in September continues to confirm that this follow-up procurement arrangement is underway.

In addition to freight locomotives, ADY also signed an agreement with CRRC Ziyang in June this year for the procurement of 4 mainline passenger locomotives, scheduled for delivery in 2027. The new freight and passenger locomotives correspond respectively to ADY's current plans to enhance capacity on international freight corridors and to renew long-distance passenger rolling stock.
