en.Wedoany.com Reported - Philippine Airlines (PAL) followed up on its letter of intent for the Boeing 787‑10 and expanded its commitment to the Airbus A350‑1000 on the opening day of the Farnborough Airshow.

After taking delivery of its first A350‑1000 in December 2025, the airline signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on July 21 to order nine more of the type, plus purchase rights for an additional five. Deliveries are tentatively scheduled for 2032‑2034.

In conjunction with the A350‑1000 order, Philippine Airlines signed an MOU with Rolls‑Royce for 18 Trent XWB‑97 engines, covering engines for the optional aircraft as well as a TotalCare maintenance agreement.

Overall, the 787 and A350 will cover the flag carrier's future medium- and long-range needs, eventually replacing Philippine Airlines' A330 and 777 fleets. Regarding a potential order for the A330neo, PAL President Richard Nuttall said management evaluated the type but believed there were better options. "We did consider the A330neo, but basically we thought we could carry more passengers. We have more demand—the Philippines has a population of 115 million. Once you think you can carry more demand and cargo, then the larger aircraft becomes more economical," Nuttall told Aviation Week.

Cargo was also a factor in Philippine Airlines' Boeing commitment. Disclosed on July 20, the MOU covers 15 787‑10s and includes purchase rights for an additional five.
