en.Wedoany.com Reported - Recently, a key project under the national petrochemical industry planning and layout—the core unit of the green and low-carbon demonstration project supporting the 1.2 million tons/year Phase II ethylene facility at PetroChina Dushanzi Petrochemical Tarim—delivered good news: The 120,000 standard cubic meters/hour pressure swing adsorption (PSA) and membrane-coupled hydrogen recovery unit, built using technology from Sinochem Southwest Research Institute, has been successfully commissioned, with all product hydrogen indicators meeting specifications, marking a one-time successful startup of the unit.

The hydrogen recovery unit utilizes PSA patented technology, specialized adsorbents, program-controlled valves, and intelligent control technologies independently developed by Sinochem Southwest Research Institute. It adopts a skid-mounted design with a well-organized overall layout. The core program-controlled valve area and membrane recovery unit are supplied as skid-mounted units, while other piping and valves are prefabricated in the factory, significantly reducing on-site installation time and improving construction precision and quality reliability.
Once operational, the unit will provide a stable hydrogen source for downstream ammonia synthesis plants, enabling the resource utilization of by-product hydrogen. This will help double the project's production capacity while reducing both energy consumption and emissions, building a green and low-carbon industrial system of "direct green power connection + carbon capture + blue hydrogen + blue ammonia + green fertilizers."
The green and low-carbon demonstration project supporting the 1.2 million tons/year Phase II ethylene facility at PetroChina Dushanzi Petrochemical Tarim is the world's first demonstration base for carbon emission recycling in ethylene cracking. Upon completion, it will become the largest ethylene industrial base in central and western China.
Sinochem Southwest Research Institute is a pioneer and leader in domestic PSA technology. Since the 1970s, it has been dedicated to technology research, development, and industrialization in fields such as gas purification and separation, and chemical catalysis. With decades of deep industry expertise and a solid technological foundation, it has successfully developed a full-range industrial by-product gas hydrocarbon recovery technology with complete independent intellectual property rights. Its strong technical capabilities have earned it two first prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award.
As a national-level PSA technology research and promotion center, Sinochem Southwest Research Institute is a core supplier of hydrogen recovery in the petroleum refining sector. It has promoted and applied nearly 2,000 industrial units both domestically and internationally, firmly holding a leading position in the domestic hydrogen recovery track.
