CATL and Pinglu Canal Group Forge Strategic Partnership to Advance Electric Vessels Across the Board

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Recently, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Pinglu Canal Group Co., Ltd. The two parties will jointly build a zero-carbon energy system for green shipping and the canal economic belt, creating a world-class benchmark for a smart zero-carbon canal.

Pinglu Canal Group Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Chairman and General Manager Wu Song, and CATL Director and Chairman of the Ecological Development Committee Wu Yingming attended the signing ceremony and witnessed the signing. Pinglu Canal Group Party Committee Member and Vice General Manager Li Hengchang and CATL Regional Management General Manager for South China Ding Aijun signed the agreement on behalf of both parties.

According to the agreement, the two parties will promote the deep integration of CATL's zero-carbon technologies with Pinglu Canal application scenarios, focusing on cooperation in three major areas: zero-carbon energy infrastructure construction, large-scale application of electric vessels on inland waterways, and digital energy management platforms, injecting strong momentum into the green and low-carbon transformation of Guangxi's inland waterway shipping and the development of a green canal.

The two parties will also establish regular meetings and daily liaison coordination mechanisms to facilitate the implementation of cooperation projects and jointly build a green shipping ecosystem integrating the canal economic belt with new energy development.

The Pinglu Canal is a backbone project of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor and a landmark project in China's efforts to accelerate the development of a strong transportation network. It is scheduled to be officially completed and opened to navigation in September this year. With a total length of 134.2 kilometers, it is the first large-scale canal connecting rivers and seas since the founding of the People's Republic of China. Upon completion, it will provide the southwestern region with a new sea passage featuring the shortest distance and lowest cost, shortening the voyage of goods to the sea by approximately 560 kilometers and saving an estimated 7 to 15 days in transportation time.

Once the Pinglu Canal is officially put into operation, electric vessel navigation management will be fully implemented. The first batch of electric vessels to enter trial operation will be equipped with CATL marine power battery systems. In addition, CATL will jointly operate a "battery bank" battery-leasing service with Pinglu Canal Group, reducing vessel owners' purchase and operating costs through a battery leasing model, further promoting the electrification of inland waterway vessels.

In addition to advancing the electrification of vessels, the two parties plan to build wind and solar power stations, energy storage stations, and microgrids along the canal to supply power to parks, port and shipping facilities, and charging and swapping infrastructure. Meanwhile, they will jointly develop a smart zero-carbon management system to enable quantitative monitoring of carbon reduction performance across vessels, parks, and power station grids.

Looking ahead, CATL will continue to support the green upgrade of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor and accelerate the transition of China's inland waterway shipping toward a zero-carbon future.
