Brazil's Eneva Azulão I thermal power plant begins commercial operation with 295 MW

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Eneva announced on Tuesday (4th) that it has received authorization from Brazil's National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) to begin commercial operation of the UTE Azulão I thermal power plant, located in the municipality of Silves, Amazonas state (Silves, AM).

The plant, fueled by natural gas extracted from the company's concession area in the Amazon Basin (Bacia do Amazonas), will deliver 295 megawatts (MW) of power contracted in the 2021 Capacity Reserve Auction (Leilão de Reserva de Capacidade de 2021). The contract has a 15-year term starting this Wednesday (5th), guaranteeing fixed annual revenue of R$278.3 million (at December 2025 values), adjusted by the Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA). Additionally, the plant will receive variable compensation based on actual power generation, with a reference revenue of R$1,200.87 per megawatt-hour (MWh), adjusted monthly according to the JKM index and exchange rates.

UTE Azulão I is the first project to enter operation within the Azulão 950 complex (Complexo Azulão 950). The complex also includes UTE Azulão II, which has been contracted in the second Capacity Reserve Auction in the form of Energy (LRCAP) and is expected to begin operations in July 2027, guaranteeing fixed annual revenue of R$1.92 billion (at May 2022 values) over a 15-year supply period.
