en.Wedoany.com Reported - TotalEnergies plans to drill the Jampuk-1 ultra-deepwater exploration well in the SB-N block offshore Sabah, Malaysia, to test a new hydrocarbon exploration target within the block. A navigation notice issued by the Malaysian Maritime Department confirms that TotalEnergies EP Malaysia will conduct the drilling activities in Sabah waters.

The operation is planned to use the Noble Viking drillship, owned by Noble Corporation. According to Noble's fleet status report released on July 27, the drillship is contracted for a well in Malaysia scheduled between August and October 2026, with two optional work items included in the contract. Built in 2014, the Noble Viking has a rated water depth of 12,000 feet and is primarily used for deepwater and ultra-deepwater oil and gas drilling.

Jampuk-1 is located in the SB-N exploration block operated by TotalEnergies, which holds a 34.9% interest in the block. Jampuk-1 is situated in the same block as the well that previously discovered the Tepat hydrocarbon accumulation, but it targets a new exploration prospect. No target resource estimates, drilling results, or subsequent appraisal plans have been disclosed to date.

The SB-N block has previously achieved two hydrocarbon exploration milestones. The Tepat-1 well discovered hydrocarbons in 2018, and Petronas subsequently confirmed that the Tepat-2 well, drilled by TotalEnergies in 2022, further validated the extent of the Tepat discovery. Jampuk-1 remains in the exploration drilling phase, and its execution does not imply that the block has established a new commercial discovery or entered development and construction.
