en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Regional Government of Atacama (Gobierno Regional de Atacama) will allocate $750 million to directly support small-scale mining producers affected by the recent frontal system (sistema frontal). The funds are scheduled to be submitted for approval at a special session of the Regional Council (Consejo Regional) to be held this Tuesday in Copiapó.

This investment is part of the "Mining in Action" Plan (Plan Minería en Marcha). Launched in Vallenar, the plan brings together the Regional Government, the Ministry of Mining (Ministerio de Minería), and the Presidential Delegation (Delegación Presidencial) to accelerate road access restoration, safety improvements, and the resumption of operations in the hardest-hit areas of Huasco Province (provincia del Huasco) and Tierra Amarilla.

Deputy Minister of Mining Álvaro González, members of Congress, industry leaders, and representatives of the mining sector attended the plan's launch event. Miguel Vargas, Governor of the Atacama Region, stated that these funds will complement the Ministry of Mining's PAMMA Emergency Plan (PAMMA Emergencia), speeding up the delivery of aid, particularly to small-scale miners in Huasco Province and Tierra Amarilla.

At the institutional coordination level, the plan aims to join forces with the Road Administration (Vialidad), the National Mining Company of Chile (ENAMI), BancoEstado, and the National Geology and Mining Service (Servicio Nacional de Geología y Minería) to deliver technical tools and funding to affected producers, and to assess interventions on unregistered roads that have blocked access to multiple mining sites.

Vargas emphasized that this investment reaffirms the Regional Government's commitment to the affected areas, with a core focus on the recovery of productive activities. The frontal system severely impacted sectors such as fisheries, small-scale agriculture, livestock farming, and small-scale mining.

Small-scale mining is a vital source of employment and income in Atacama, particularly in areas where it serves as the backbone of the local economy. This initiative aims to meet the urgent need for the sector to resume operations.
